She was raised in Calcutta and studied for a business degree. She is the second daughter in her family. She won the famous Ford Supermodels Contest at the age of seventeen; she was also named Tulips Miss Super Vivacious. Many modeling jobs followed.
From modeling to films is a common step in today's Indian movie industry. Bipasha's debut movie was Ajnabee (2001). The movie was fairly successful and Bipashu was quickly signed for more movies. She attracted fans with her roles in Raaz (2002) and Jism (2003).
